About Us
Why the name Honeycomb Cooperative?
A honeycomb is a structurally stable space, a place where bees nurture their young, store food, train their workers and thrive in general. It is a microcosm of a society and the perfect example of what we strive for in our own communities - a safe space where we can grow harmoniously with our environment.
Bees are fascinating and vitally important creatures, acting as a keystone species in the environment. Human activities over the last several decades have caused a substantial decline in their population, and if we don’t act to redress that balance the consequences could be catastrophic. This is why we consider improving habitable spaces to counteract this decline to be at the core of our mission.
The three activities at the core of this mission include:
- Tree and hedge planting ensuring soil integrity
- Apicultural education in the community, educating the public regarding bee welfare.
- Supporting the holistic ecosystem that our bees are dependant on
We believe these three activities will create the honeycomb which is a structurally stable place where the nurturing of the young and old, storage of food and where thriving in general can take place. It is a microcosm of a society and a perfect example of what we strive for in our own world - a safe space where we can grow harmoniously with our environment.
